This DIY table setting sets the tone for this charming, rustic wedding at Vida Buena Farm.

Why do so many people think that DIY means “cheap and cheesy”? I’m here to tell ya…it doesn’t! More Brides are coming to realize that making some of your own wedding decor is a fun way to really personalize your wedding. Not everyone wants the table setting straight out of a catalog. DIY decor can be as easy a a few painted mason jars or as extravagant as handmade paper boxes for wedding favors.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

  • Mason jars: These are wonderfully versatile (and inexpensive). You can paint them. Use them as a vase for flowers, or as a candle holder. You can wrap them in ribbon. Give them a classic, country, vintage or sophisticated look. The options are almost endless. Check out our Pinterest board for more ideas.
  • Lighting: Lights can really up the elegance of a outdoor wedding. They add glamour and sophistication and truly elevate the entire event. But you don’t have to invest in professional lighting to get this effect. Candles, string lights, globe lights can be used together to create a ethereal effect outdoors, in a barn or under a tree. I’ve got some examples to show you what is possible.
  • Environment: If you’re having a farm wedding, why not leverage the beautiful landscape as part of your decor? At Vida Buena Farm, the hundred year old oak tree, the vine covered trellises, the grapes, the hills, the gardens…are all yours to do with as you will. See what some of our Brides have done with the environment and made it their own.
