It happens every year – we are always looking for what’s in or out, what’s hot and trendy. This year seems that the biggest trend in weddings is towards a more personalized and mindful wedding experience – for the Bride, Groom and Guests. Here’s some interesting trends we’ve been seeing here at Vida Buena Farm.
Wedding Weekends
You’ve put in hours working out the details of this day – and then it’s over. Time goes so fast during the ceremony and reception that many couples feel like they didn’t get to spend enough time with their family and friends. Why not make it a weekend! Instead of a rehearsal for just a handful of the bridal party – invite anyone who travelled to your event. Host an informal BBQ or pizza party and hang out before the big day. Host a bagel bar on Sunday morning and enjoy opening all your gifts! At Vida Buena Farm the venue is yours from noon on Friday through noon on Sunday – make the most of it!
Stand Up Ceremonies
Gone are the days of the traditional wedding ceremony. We have done several “stand up” ceremonies in the Shady Glen where guests gathered around the couple under the grove of Oak trees. These ceremonies have an almost mystical feel to them, and tend to be shorter and more informal, which is another trend we’re seeing. The guests are closer to the couple, the exchange of vows is more intimate and the experience is truly unique.
Sustainable celebrations
I was poking around on Etsy the other day and saw some research that shows that incorporating environmentally-friendly elements in weddings is on the rise. In fact, Etsy shows that there have been over 170,000 searches for environmentally-friendly items – anything from reusable straws, to biodegradable confetti and locally-sourced table accessories, can help to make the big day more planet-friendly.
Weddings aren’t known for being the most eco-friendly, with plastic packaging, food, flowers and throwaway decor all ending up on the landfill. If you’re planning to get married this year why not consider a sustainable celebration. Hit up the local thrift stores for things like candle holders and vases. Ask around and borrow from friends who have recently gotten married.
Wine/Beer Favours
I also saw over on Etsy, that there have already been over 11,000 searches for ‘wine favors’ by brides looking for the most practical of gifts. Cork wine stoppers, bottle openers are clever and useful favors. But why stop there? Make your own Wedding beverage (wine or beer) here at Vida Buena Farm. Spend a day with us brewing your own specialty beer on site and add your personal label for a really special remembrance, sure to be enjoyed by everyone.
Bring the Inside Out
Making an outdoor space feel as homey as possible is a major 2019 décor strategy. The idea of ‘bring the outside in’ has been around for years, but we are seeing a lot more of ‘bring the inside out.” Couples love outdoor weddings, but to make them feel more like a fabulous dining or living room, you can bring outdoor pieces like sofas and coffee tables outside to create separate spaces for your guests to enjoy. This is what Vida Buena Farm is all about – taking this special place and making it your own.
